I have been teaching for twenty-five years, both privately at home and at two grammar schools in West Yorkshire.
My teaching style differs from student to student. I believe that no two students are alike and as such I tailor their lessons to suit their learning styles. I use both Suzuki and more traditional concepts in my teaching which plays to the strengths of the student.
I also believe that learning an instrument is as much about learning music as a whole as it is about learning instrument-specific techniques. Aural and theory are introduced from the very start, especially with very young children who gain a deep foundation of pitch and rhythm from that early stage. Adults also are introduced to these skills but in a very different way, especially if they have no history of playing music.
I particularly enjoy teaching adults, whether they are returning to music after a break or starting from scratch. It's never too late to learn a musical instrument!
I currently have students ranging from ten years old to ladies in their eighties, and from complete beginners to students preparing for diploma exams.
I thoroughly enjoy teaching music and would love to meet you!
